Dell d3100 USB Dock works with DisplayLink technology. T he docking station supports a three-monitor setup by offering one DisplayPort and two HDMI outputs. With three monitors connected, the dock can display up to 4K on one display and Full-HD on two. You need to download Dell d3100 Drivers. Dell Usb3 0 Dock D3100 User Manual 11 Pages. The moving company for my company relocation lost my Dell D3100 AC Adapter Power Supply. I used the D3100 docking station for two more HDMI monitor display (total of 4) originally. In order to get multiple displays back, I found this item and ordered it.

I work in an office space and a few of us have dell docking stations (D3100 and 3000's) and 2 external monitors each to complement our work laptops.

Myself and another employee are experiencing random cases of the dock causing the computer to freeze for about 5 seconds, then the laptop monitor blacks out and comes back on, then the other 2 monitors black out and turn back on and everything is back to normal, except the 3rd screen's windows are now moved to the main monitor (as though it had been disconnected completely). There is also the sound of the USB disconnecting and then the sound of it reconnecting, but this occurs after the freeze, and the 2nd external monitor does not have any of the files move to the main screen. The freezing only seems to happen (randomly) when using the external monitor screens, and it is very annoying when it does happen.

This has only started happening recently and appears to only occur when I am doing works on one of the external monitors.

I have tried replacing the docking station with another of the exact model (D3100), didnt work. I updated the drivers - didnt work. I rolled back the drivers - didnt work. I downloaded the latest drivers from the dell website and manually suggested them for the device (it stated the drivers were up to date) so that did not work. Just in case it was my usb ports shutting off external power I disabled that in my control panel AND my device manager.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes for this? Im starting to want to move to a different docking station because of this as I cannot continue to work with it doing this freeze randomly.

Hi,

the current master does not work with the Dell D3100.

The inital version (first commit) works fine, the current master does not work and spits out the following kernel messages:

I don't know about the 'Edid too large', but as I said, previous versions worked fine.

Using kernel 4.4 (those messages are from 4.5) with the current master on gentoo with my ebuild from my overlay

This should already be fixed on devel branch - but DisplayLink driver would not work with this branch yet as commit 09b525b changed the signature of evdi_connect. A build from devel branch witch this change reverted might work though. Let us know if you try it. Thanks!

Oh sorry didn't really realize the old 'master' branch there (which has nothing really changed) so all my comments above apply to the devel branch. I couldn't get the patch reversed on first try as it seems a lot of things changed. I need ba9e54f though, because of the changes for 4.5.

Is there a new release of DisplayLink planned for the new evdi module?

commented Mar 29, 2016

I have the same problem, kernel 4.5.0 and Dell D3100. On kernel 4.4.0 and older evdi it was working.

Dell XPS 15 - Linux Mint x64 17.3 Cinnamon - Kernel 4.5.0.

@f3l1x I think this is a different issue
The error here is

which is a GCC 4.9 option.
For what I have found, Mint 17 only ships with GCC 4.8

Dell d3100 docking station installation

@daugustin Thanks.. But, how can I fix it?

commented Apr 4, 2016

The patch i made for my openSUSE installation, can be reused for other linux distribution i think:
https://github.com/sinfomicien/displaylink-evdi-opensuse

The patch is based on codesource i grab here, and apply only for kernel 4.5.0 compatibility

commented Apr 11, 2016

Thanks @sinfomicien, I used that to update my ebuild

I successfully tested the first version from 2015 with the patch and it worked on 4.5.

@displaylink-mlukaszek Are there any ETAs for a new displaylink driver so we can use the newer evdi module?

commented Apr 13, 2016

@daugustin I cannot promise any ETA. We definitely do plan to extend support to Ubuntu 16.04, which as you know it's due to be out in about a week.

Closing, this is now shipping in Ubuntu 1.1.62 release.

I'm seeing something similar https://gist.github.com/jcaesar/c6d93c70ae1d82689b96924d573ecc95 with version 1.1.65 (I can display stuff, but some applications have slideshow-level-performance.)
Should I open a new bug for this?

@jcaesar Yes, please raise this on our forum. It would be great if you could attach logs and, even better, record a short video where the problem can be observed. Thanks.
