Do you receive the following error message “Unable to connect to the Synaptics pointing device Driver” when you try to open mouse option from the control panel?
Firstly, check if you’re able to open mouse option by clicking on start and typing main.cpl in the start search box and press Enter.
You can also try the steps mentioned below to see if that help you to resolve the issue.
Step 1: Install the Synaptic Touchpad drivers from Dell
The touchpad is missing its synaptic drivers. You need to install the touchpad driver.

Note: The driver in the link above is compatible for Windows XP/Windows Vista. I couldn’t find the touchpad driver for Dell Vostro 1500 for Windows 7 in the Dell Website. Once you’ve the right drivers installed for your touchpad, you can follow step 2 on how to disable the touchpad.
Step 2: Procedure you need to follow to disable the touchpad in your Dell laptop
a.Go to the Control Panel. Under the ‘Hardware and Sound’ options, click ‘Mouse’.
b.Since you have a Dell laptop, you’ll have a special tab called ‘Dell touchpad’ in the window that pops up. Click on the touchpad picture in the window.
